The loss of a loved one often brings much pain and sorrow however many people, after attending a Catholic funeral often describe the service as ‘beautifully reverent’. The Catholic Church professes hope in the face of death and considers the funeral rites a privileged opportunity to return to God the gift of the dearly departed with the aid of our prayers. “By means of the Funeral rites it has been the practice of the church, as a tender mother, not simply to commend the dead to God but also to raise high the hope of its children and to give witness to its own faith in the future resurrection of the baptized with Christ.” (Congregation for Divine Worship)
