Prayer To St. Joseph For A Happy Death ⇅

O Blessed Joseph, you gave your last breath in the loving embrace of Jesus and Mary. When the seal of death shall close my life, come with Jesus and Mary to aid me. Obtain for me this solace for that hour - to die with their holy arms around me. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I commend my soul, living and dying, into your sacred arms. Amen

Prayer Of Comfort And Healing ⇅

Comfort me with your love O God
Wrap me up in Your strong embrace
Shelter me from the storm O Lord
Envelop me in Your tender care
By day I pour out my heartbreak to You
By night I give you my racing thoughts
In You I take refuge
In You I will not be afraid
For you hold me strong, You hold me safe
Calm my fearful heart O God
Still my anxious mind O Lord
For all my life is found in You
All my being is given to You
All my hope begins in You.  Amen

Prayers For Strength When Grieving ⇅

Lord, at the moment nothing seems to be able to help the loss I feel.
My heart is broken and my spirit mourns.
Al I know is that Your grace is sufficient.
This day, this hour
Moment by moment
I choose to lean on You,
For when I am at my weakest Your strength is strongest.
I pour out my grief to You
And praise You that on one glorious day
When all suffering is extinguished and love has conquered
We shall walk together again.

God Will Calm Your Fears ⇅

For the Lord your God is living among you.
He is a mighty Saviour.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.

Prayer For Person In Trouble Or Bereavement ⇅

O merciful Father,
Who hast taught us in thy holy Word that thou dost not willingly afflict
or grieve the children of men;
Look with pity upon the sorrows of thy servant for whom our prayers are offered.
Remember him, O Lord, in mercy,
Nourish his soul with patience,
Comfort him with a sense of thy goodness,
Lift up thy countenance upon him,
And give him peace;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Give courage and faith to those who are bereaved,
that they may have strength to meet
the days ahead in the comfort of a reasonable and holy hope,
in the joyful expectation of eternal life with those they love. Amen

Help us, we pray in the midst of things we cannot understand,
to believe and trust in the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection to life everlasting.
Amen.

Grant to all who mourn a sure confidence in thy fatherly care,
that casting all their grief on thee, they may know the consolation of thy love.
Amen

Psalm 46:1-7 ⇅

God is our refuge and strength,
An ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
And the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
Though its waters roar and foam
And the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
The holy place where the Most High swells.
God is within her, she will not fall:
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
He lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord Almighty is with us;
The God of Jacob is our fortress.

Psalm 23 The Lord Is My Shepherd ⇅

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Prayer For A Broken Heart ⇅

O Lord, there is nothing but hurt left.
I feel so broken, my heart is torn apart.
All I can do is wait.
Wait in this desolate place,
And trust that somehow you can meet me.
I feel too weak to go on.
I am like a shell, living, breathing, yet so empty.
All I can do is give up.
Give up in this heartbroken time,
And believe that somehow you can restore me.
I find the sadness overwhelming,
Like wave upon wave of emptiness
All I can do is rest.
Rest within your suffering and hope that through you –
Your love, your forgiveness and your strength –
I will wake to a new day
A new dawn for my heart and my life.
Amen.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
hallowed by Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.  Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death.Amen

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.  Amen

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, refresh me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Your wounds hide me.
Let me never be separated from You.
From the power of darkness defend me.
In the hour of my death, call me
and bid me come to You,
that with Your saints I may praise You
for ever and ever.Amen

Holy Spirit,
Be present to all who are dying.
Sustain them by Your power;
console them by Your love.
Even in their sufferings
fill them with Your joy.
When their eyes
close to the things of this world
grant that they may open them again on You
Unfailing Light.
And grant that, losing this world,
they may gain all things,
resting in the eternal possession of You. Amen.

All who believe in the Son will have eternal life.                 Jn. 6:40

Prayer for Someone Who is Ill
Almighty Lord, Physician of souls and bodies, You humble and lift up,
You reprimand and heal, visit _______ with Your mercy for he/she is suffering.
Stretch forth Your arm which is so full of healing and health, and cure him/her, raising him/her from his/her bed and pain.
Reprove the spirit of weakness which is in him/her and drive far from him/her pain, wounds, chills, fever and weakness.
If he/she has sins or transgressions, loosen, remit and forgive them in Your love for mankind.
O Lord, have compassion on Your creation, in Christ Jesus our Lord, with whom You are blessed, together with Your all holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.    Amen

Prayer When Sickness Increases
O Lord Jesus Christ, our God and our Savior, for our sake You were born; and for our sake You were hungry and thirsty; for our sake You were mocked, scourged and crowned with thorns; for our sake You suffered and died on the cross, offering up Your divine life for our salvation:  as You now grant Your servant ______ to share in Your sufferings, grant him/her also to share in Your grace.  May Your wounds heal the wounds of his/her sins.  May Your precious Blood wash away the stains of his/her sins.  May Your divine righteousness purge from him/her every iniquity.  Look upon his/her faith in You, and the faith of us who pray, and do what is best for him/her according to Your mercy, rather than our merit.  As sickness increases in him/her, so likewise increase in him/her Your power and strength.  Let not his/her faith waver or his/her hope fail, or his /her love grow cold.  Let not the fear of suffering and death cause him/her to cast away his/her hope in You, or to lose courage and the will to fight every sickness and sin.  Let him/her rather look always to You even to the very end, and cry out, as You Yourself cried from the cross to God:  “Into Your hands, Good Father, I commend My spirit.”  Bless him/her to enter Your everlasting Kingdom, where all the saints continually shine with Your divine glory.  For You have suffered that we might be healed, and have died that we might live, and we send up thanksgiving and praise to You, to the Father who sent You, and to Your most Holy Spirit, Who strengthens us to share Your passion, now and ever and unto ages of ages.  Amen.

Prayer for One Terminally Ill
O Almighty God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray to You for Your servant ______ whose sickness is bringing him/her to the end of his/her earthly life.  You are the God whose only-begotten Son taught us that not even the smallest sparrow can fall without Your knowledge, and that You hold all creation in Your merciful arms.  Look upon Your servant ______ and allow this illness to be for the death only of those things which are the result of evil and sin.  Let his/her thoughts be quieted with the peace and confidence of his/her final deliverance into the fullness of Your love.  Keep his/her soul and body pure, and sanctify them during the time he/she remains among us, that on the last day he/she may be raised up with all Your saints to live with You in never ending glory.  For to You belong praise and worship, to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages.  Amen.

The Lord is my light and my salvation.                                   Ps. 26:1
We shall be with the Lord for ever.                                 Thess. 4:17

Prayer at the Departing of the Soul
O Lord and Master and Governor of all, Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who desires not the death of a sinner, but rather that he may turn from his wickedness and live, willing that all men should be saved and come to the knowledge of the Truth, we pray You to loose the soul of Your servant ______
from every bond, and to free him/her from every unfulfilled pledge which he/she has given, granting him/her forgiveness of all his/her sins from his/her youth till now, known and unknown, in deed and word, both those which he/she has sincerely confessed, and those which he/she has concealed through forgetfulness or shame.  For You alone loose bonds and restore the downtrodden, You are the hope of them that are in despair, mighty in forgiving the sins of every creature who puts his trust in You.  O Lord, the Lover of mankind, bid him/her to be released from all the bonds of sin and the flesh.  Receive in peace the soul of this Your servant ______ and give him/her rest in Your eternal dwelling with all Your Saints, by the grace of Your only Son our Lord and God and Savior, Jesus Christ, with Whom You are blessed together with Your all-holy, gracious and life giving Spirit now and forever and unto ages of ages.  Amen.

Prayer for the Dying
O Lord Jesus Christ our God, for the sake of Your most holy wounds, hear our prayer and forgive all the transgressions of Your humble servant ______.  At the moment of his/her death, accept into Your merciful hands his/her soul cleansed of all stain of sin, and place him/her with Your Saints in the resplendent light of Your kingdom.  For You are our salvation and redemption, and we give glory to You, together with Your eternal Father, and Your all-holy, gracious, and life-giving Spirit, now, and forever.  Amen.

Prayer for the Sick near Death
Almighty and Everlasting God, preserver of souls, who dost correct those whom Thou dost love, and for their betterment dost tenderly chastise those whom Thou dost receive, we call upon Thee, O Lord, to grant Thy healing, that the soul of Thy servant, at the hour of its departure from the body, may by the hands of Thy holy Angels be presented without spot unto Thee.  Amen.

Prayer for the Dying
Lord, help us to see in Your crucifixion and resurrection an example of how to endure and seemingly to die in the agony and conflict of daily life, so that we may live more fully and creatively. You accepted patiently and humbly the rebuffs of human life, as well as the tortures of Your crucifixion and passion.  Help us to accept the pains and conflicts that come to us each day as opportunities to grow as people and become more like You. Enable us to go through them patiently and bravely, trusting that You will support us.  Make us realize that it is only by frequent deaths of ourselves and our self-centered desires that we can come to live more fully; for it is only by dying with You that we can rise with You.
Amen.
Mother Teresa

Whether we live or die we are the Lord’s.                         Rom. 14:8

2 Corinthians 4:10-18
Brothers and sisters:  We always carry about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be  manifested in our body.  For we who live are constantly being given up to death for the sake of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.  So death is at work in us, but life in you.  Since, then, we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed, therefore I spoke”, we too believe and therefore we speak, knowing that the One who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and place us with you in His presence.  Everything indeed is for you,  so that the grace bestowed in abundance on more and more people may cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God.  Therefore, we are not discouraged; rather, although our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.  For this momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, for what is seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal.

A Prayer for one who is Dangerously Ill
O Lord our God, we approach Your presence, Who alone can succor and save, beseeching You to look down in pity upon this Your servant, here lying in great weakness of body, under Your chastening hand.  We know, O Lord, that with You are the issues of life and of death; that with You nothing is impossible; that if You will You can even yet raise him/her up, heal all his/her infirmities, and restore him/her to health.  In entire submission to Your righteous will, we beg this mercy at Your hands.  Spare him/her, O good Lord, and grant him/her a longer continuance among us.  But whatever You have determined, let his/her soul be precious in Your sight.  Give him/her true repentance for all the sins, ignorance, and negligence of his/her past life, and a lively faith in Jesus Christ.  Wash his/her soul with the precious blood of Your dear Son, and sanctify it by and adorn it with the graces of Your Holy Spirit, that it may be cleansed from all its defilements, and be presented pure and blameless and without spot before You, in the great Day of Your power.  Fit him/her, we pray, for whatever in Your wise providence You have appointed for him/her, whether life or death; that it may be unto him/her to live unto Christ, and if to die, that to die may be gain; and that in all things he/she may find cause to praise and glorify Your holy name.  If You should be graciously pleased to raise him/her from his/her bed of languishing, grant that he/she may lead the residue of his/her life in Your fear and to Your glory.  Or if You have otherwise determined, prepare him/her for the hour of his/her departure; defend him/her from his/her spiritual enemies; finish all that is wanting in the work of his/her salvation; support and comfort him/her in his/her last agonies; make his/her end easy and peaceful; and fill him/her with a hope full of immortality.  Finally, O Lord, receive him/her into the arms of Your unspeakable mercy, into the glorious state of Your saints in light, and give him/her a resurrection unto eternal life in Your heavenly kingdom.  All which we ask, in the name, and through the merits of our Advocate and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.  Amen.
Come, blessed of my Father, says the Lord Jesus, and take possession of the kingdom prepared for you.            Matthew. 25:34

Prayer For a Dying Person
May Christ Who was crucified for your sake free you from excruciating pain.
May Christ Who died for you free you from the death that never ends.
May Christ the Son of the living God, set you in the ever green loveliness of His Paradise, and may He, the true Shepherd recognize you as one of His own.
May you see your Redeemer face to face and standing in His presence forever,
may you see with joyful eyes Truth revealed in all its fullness.  Amen.

The Lord Jesus says, I go to prepare you a place, and I will take you with Me.      John 14:2-3

I commend you, dear Brother (Sister), to the almighty God, and consign you to the care of Him, Whose creature you are, that, when you shall have paid the debt of all mankind by death, you may return to your Maker, Who formed you from the dust of the earth.  When, therefore, your soul shall depart from your body, may the resplendent multitude of the angels meet you:  may the court of the apostles receive you:  may the triumphant army of glorious martyrs come out to welcome you:  may the splendid company of confessors clad in their white robes encompass you: may the choir of joyful virgins receive you:  and may you meet with a blessed repose in the bosom of the patriarchs.  May St. Joseph, the most sweet Patron of the dying, comfort you with a great hope.  May Mary, the holy Mother of God, lovingly cast upon you her eyes of mercy.  May Jesus Christ appear to you with a mild and joyful countenance, and appoint you a place among those who are to stand before Him for ever.  May you be a stranger to all that is punished with darkness, chastised with flames, and condemned to torments.  May the most wicked enemy, with all his evil spirits, be forced to give way:  may he tremble at your approach in the company of angels, and with confusion fly away into the vast chaos of eternal night.  Let God arise and His enemies be dispersed, and let them that hate Him fly before His Face, let them vanish like smoke; and as wax that melts before the fire, so let sinners perish in the sight of God; but may the just rejoice and be happy in His presence.
May then all the legions of Hell be confounded and put to shame; and may none of the ministers of Satan dare to stop you in your way.  May Christ deliver you from torments, Who was crucified for you.  May He deliver you from eternal death, Who vouchsafed to die for you.  May Jesus Christ the Son of the living God place you in the ever-verdant lawns of His Paradise; and may He, the true Shepherd, acknowledge you for one of His flock.  May He absolve you from all your sins, and place you at His right hand in the midst of His elect.  May you see your Redeemer face to face, and standing always in His presence, behold with happy eyes the most clear Truth.  And may you be placed among the company of the blessed and enjoy the sweetness of the contemplation of your God for ever.  Amen.

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.                   Ps. 26:13

Psalm 23

The Lord is my Shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures where He gives me repose.
Near restful waters He leads me, to revive my drooping spirit.
He guides me along the right path; He is true to His name.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness no evil would I fear.
You are there with Your crook and Your staff; with these You give me comfort.
You have prepared a banquet for me in the sight of my foes.
My head You have anointed with oil; my cup is overflowing.
Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life.
In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell for ever and ever.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

and present him/her to God the Most High.

We commend our brother/sister to You, Lord.
Now that he/she has passed from this life,
may he/she live on in Your presence.
In Your mercy and love,
forgive whatever sins he/she may have committed
through human weakness.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

John 14:1-6, 23, 27

Jesus said to His disciples:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God still, and trust in Me.
There are many rooms in My Father’s house; if there were not, I should have told you.
I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place,
I shall return to take you with Me; so that where I am you may be too.
You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus said: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  No one can come to the Father except through Me.
If anyone loves Me he will keep My Word, and My Father will love him,
and We shall come to him and make Our home with him.  Peace I bequeath to you, My own peace I give you,
a peace the world cannot give, this is My gift to you.  Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that any one who fled to your protection,
implored your help
or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto you,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you I come, before you I stand,
sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy
hear and answer me.

Amen.
